Bonnie Doon - Dooner Nooner Canadian
Bonnie Doon is an Ottawa-based post-punk five-piece drawing inspiration from spooky beaches and pizza joints. Their debut LP Dooner Nooner was released in 2017 on vinyl via Record Centre Records and on cassette c/o Bruised Tongue. Dooner Nooner contains nine original, sludgy, surfy tunes inspired by actual events: such as the struggle of making it to brunch for noon and how it feels to brave a waterslide in a bikini. Their 2014 sold-out EP on Bruised Tongue Records An Affair to Imagine saw the debut of their west coast/punk/new wave/indie/surf of the formative days of Teenage Head, the Viletones, Flipper and the B52’s. Hear Bonnie Doon’s featured singles on Bruised Tongue’s Afterburners series and The Famine’s Pentagon Black Compilations and feature appearances on Weird Canada, Photogmusic, Ottawa Showbox, Ottawa Life, AuxTV, CitySlangRadio, Braido, TheLeSigh and Exclaim! Gracing festival stages in Ottawa (Bluesfest, Arboretum Festival, Ottawa Explosion Festival, Westfest), Guelph (KazooFest), Halifax (Everyseeker formerly Obey Convention), Meaford (Electric Eclectics), Montreal (Coolfest), Calgary (Sled Island), and Detroit (BFF Fest). 2019 saw the release of a brand new music video for the sax-infused summer party jam “Panty Twister".

Okies - Once a Fisherman From Spain Canadian
Thomas Aguinaga (Drums/Percussions), Sam Gendron (Keyboard), Phil Goodman (Guitar, Bass, Vocals,) and Marc-Antoine Moisan (Guitar, Vocals) are an Indie Folk band from Aylmer, Quebec, across the river from the no-nonsense, straight-laced, won't-crack-a-smile-at-a-dirty-joke Capital of Canada. Okies bring together their eclectic individual tastes to form a unique and captivating sound that dips its toes, testing the waters of many different genres and blurring the lines of traditional folk and alternative music. Said to draw their inspiration from artists such as Alt-J, Fleet Foxes, Andy Shauf, and The Districts, they prefer to set aside the comparisons and simply state that they play “honest music.”

Rusty Rails
Gentlemen of the Woods - This Great Unknown Canadian
Gentlemen of the Woods is a five-man band from Ottawa, Ontario. They bring music from the hinterlands, where Americana sounds cross with Canadian folk tales. They write catchy songs with an old-timey feel and play them with heart, wit, and a deep sense of history.

On This Great Unknown, their second album, the band reflects on themes of middle-age regret and optimism. Produced by Dave Draves at Little Bullhorn Studios, the album is 11 songs about bad choices and better days ahead, performed with all the band's trademarks: memorable melodies, banjo clatter, rootsy rhythms, swaggering lead guitar, and soaring harmonies.

========================
AN INTERVIEW with Juno winner Crystal Shawanda! She’s got a new album and no less than TWO shows at Bluesfest this Saturday!

Ojibwe singer Crystal Shawanda, won the Best Blues Album of the Year at last year's JUNO awards - the first time an Indigenous artist won in this category.

There’s a tendency these days to try to pigeonhole any artist that attempts to breach the boundaries. Chalk it up to the restrictions of radio playlists or the media’s attempt to strictly define musicians by the music it believes artists ought to be making, creative instincts be damned.

Initially signed to RCA in 2007, she hit her stride as a country singer and songwriter when she scored a top 20 hit with her song “You Can Let Go” and subsequently tallied sales of over 50,000 copies of her debut album Dawn of a New Day and subsequently debuted in the Billboard Top 20. Nevertheless, she began to realize that the blues had captured her muse, and with that, she left the label, shifted her stance and began recording albums that reflected her love of blues and her natural affinity for that sound.
