AN INTERVIEW with local artists Rosalyn Dennett and Rob McLaren! Ros & Rob are playing this Thursday at the Old Mill in Manotick, and we yik-yakked all about it! Rosalyn Dennett Rosalyn Dennett is a fiddler, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who has established herself on the international roots scene through her role as one of the founding members of the highly acclaimed quartet Oh My Darling. With four nominated albums, headlining four international tours, and sold out shows across the country, she has also travelled extensively through Ireland, Appalachia and Louisiana to pursue her love of traditional music. Some of her projects include Ken Whiteley & the Beulah Band, Pigeonhawk Stringband & Old Pony (Old Time Appalachian/Bluegrass), Bon Fer (Cajun/Zydeco), and many more. Rosalyn has had the pleasure of performing with Donovan Woods, Fred Penner, David Francey, The Fugitives, Zachary Lucky, Kaia Kater, the Crooked Brothers, Gabriel De Santis, Hannah Shira Naiman, Shawna Caspi, Sarah Jane Scouten any many more great artists and has recorded on over 20 albums as a freelance musician. https://www.rosalyndennett.com/ Rob McLaren An active member of folk-rockers Union Duke and folk-grassers The Barrel Boys, Rob McLaren's quirky songwriting style has always stood apart from the crowd. His 2019 debut release “Rob McLaren II,” is the first full-length album of original material from the multi-instrumentalist. Named for his great-grandfather (making him Rob V for those keeping track at home), Rob McLaren II showcases the breadth of Rob’s musical aptitudes and experiences, occupying a cozy nook between old-time, honky-tonk, and newgrass, while featuring dizzying chops on a small heap of instruments. The songwriting is alternatingly sincere and silly, at times giving a nod to John Hartford, elsewhere evoking the subtlety of Red Headed Stranger-era Willie Nelson, or the tradition-minded collaborative spontaneity of the Highwoods Stringband. https://robmclaren.ca/ PLAYING THURSDAY Ros’ n Rob 5525 Music Series 2022 Thursday, July 21 - 7:20 Doors, 7:30 show Watson’s Mill - 5525 Dickinson St., Manotick https://watsonsmill.com/events/ ======================================================== |
