Yolande Laroche, a Franco-Taiwanese Canadian artist based in Ottawa, reflects on her hyphenated identity, life and death, and themes of alienation in her debut solo project under the pseudonym Orchidae. Soft, hypnotic melodies and mantras intertwine with minimal yet meaningful—at times psychedelic—orchestration.

It's Over
The Halluci Nation - One More Saturday Night Canadian New
As they enter a new cycle, Bear Witness and Tim “2oolman” Hill of A Tribe Called Red are reintroducing themselves as The Halluci Nation, to reflect the evolution of their music and mission. The Halluci Nation, takes its name from a phrase coined by John Trudell, to describe the vast global community of people who remember at their core what it means to be human. As a visionary artist and activist, Trudell recognized the connection between his accomplishments and what ATCR did intuitively through music and art.

The Halluci Nation maintains focus on what they feel they can impact most: how Indigenous people are seen. Through groundbreaking stage shows and ever-changing visuals, Bear Witness and 2oolman are working to create media that reflects today’s Indigenous identity. By partnering with striking visual artists such as Whess Harman, Saige Mukash and Cedar-Eve Peters along with a growing community of musical collaborators. They see themselves simply as contributors to a necessary conversation around a subtle and complex representation of the contemporary Indigenous experience.

Possessing a soulful voice to accompany her richly detailed song writing, Vicki Brittle is emerging as one of Canada’s most distinctive and compelling musical artists. The Ottawa Valley native has delivered her new single, the hauntingly beautiful “Breakdown,” which she co-wrote with critically acclaimed singer-songwriter-storyteller, Jessica Mitchell.

A song that is raw and full of emotion, Vicki is an open book and says "we've all needed a breakdown. A big cry. A let go. We can only hold things in for so long before it overflows and pours out...Breakdown is my story of letting out my emotions, and I know it's everyone's story".

The Plan
Mazyn - s/t Canadian New
No Love Lost
Mazyn - s/t Canadian New
Mazyn is an emerging hip hop artist from Ottawa, Canada. Mazyn started writing raps in his dorm room as an Egyptian international student as a form of coping with homesickness, anxiety, and college stress - which eventually turned into songs he began to share with the world under his previous artist name “Capé”. In the span of one year of releasing music, he earned a nomination for "Hip Hop Artist of the Year" award in Ottawa by Faces Magazine in 2019. He also became a part of Shifter Magazine’s Top 10 Ottawa rappers and Capcityhiphop’s Top 50 rappers in 2019.

However, it seems like making music in his second language (English) wasn’t enough for the young artist. With his first arabic release in "Mafesh Monafes", Mazyn is paving his own lane and making it clear from the get-go that there is no competition in his way. He's not just putting a city on the map, but a whole region and more.
