NEW LOCAL MUSIC!
PLAYING MEGAPHONO 2021! Akeem Oh (Ouellet) is an American-Canadian singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer from Mattawa ON, currently based in Ottawa ON. Initially contributing to the growing French Canadian music scene, he won the APCM prize at Ontario Pop Music Showcase (now rebranded as Rond Point). He was also one of the finalists on the hit musical TV Show JAM, that premiered on TFO in 2012. Dizzy. is the name of Akeem Oh’s current “artistic era” – one where he’s exploring the effects of human relationships and connections through sounds reminiscent of his influences: The Beatles, Arcade Fire, Beach House, and The Beach Boys. A first glimpse at this artistic era came in the form of Winter Crush, a catchy indie/pop epic released in January 2018 to critical acclaim. In February 2018, CBC named it one of the “Top 3 New Ontario Songs You Need To Hear”. The track was also featured in the Ottawa Run Marathon campaign videos. His work has also been featured in multiple television movies for Lifetime, Hallmark and ION. More Akeem here: https://akeemoh.bandcamp.com/ MEGAPHONO: https://megaphono.ca/akeem-oh |

Our Island April Rick - s/t |
NEW LOCAL MUSIC!
April began playing piano at the age of four and believes the piano is the sexiest of instruments, a perfect blend of class and passion. After receiving classical training through Royal Conservatory of Music, she began writing instrumental piano tunes in her spare time. With a melody line often stuck in her head, April decided to start putting lyrics to her songs after meeting long time musical idol Tori Amos in 2007. Drawing on influences like Tori Amos, Regina Spektor, Coldplay, and Lady Gaga, April has slowly developed her own alternative pop style with songs about love, hope and life's many ups and downs. NEW LOCAL MUSIC!
PLAYING MEGAPHONO 2021! A spiritual being with a fearless attitude on the beat. Lia Kloud is a hip-hop artist with a talent for creating an atmosphere of positive energy while maintaining a level of mystery through her music. Raised in Ottawa’s south side, Lia grew up in the suburbs and the music she creates reflects the environment she was raised in. Lia is unapologetically ambitious in her sound and pursuit while remaining humble and true to herself. Lia released her debut EP “Emancipated Ego” in 2019, which features the single “No Destination” and she released her second EP “520” in 2020, which features singles including “Loose Screw”, “If I Ruled The World” and “Pawn Shop”. Keep it locked on Lia in 2021, #KUMOSZN is about to begin. Grown Up Leith Ross - Motherwell |
NEW LOCAL MUSIC!
PLAYING MEGAPHONO 2021! Leith Ross started making music as a way to digest their own life. They know the power of music as a force for good: “I was sitting in my basement bedroom, thinking about a girl that I had a crush on, feeling alone and scared and ashamed of myself. Then a song came on about two girls in love. I was so thrilled.” Hoping to give that gift to someone else, Ross penned an incredibly honest and intimate collection of songs inspired by artists including Feist and Phoebe Bridgers. Originally from a small town near Ottawa, Ross, the 21 year old Humber College graduate, collaborated with some fellow students to record the debut EP, Motherwell. The eight song collection was recorded live-off-the floor in a single afternoon - what you hear is what you get. More Leith Here: https://leithross.com/ MEGAPHONO: https://megaphono.ca/leith-ross |

NEW LOCAL MUSIC!
PLAYING MEGAPHONO 2021! Lonely Boy is a Afro-Canadian vocalist who crosses R&B, Pop, Soul, and HipHop. SHIFTER Magazine describes his work as a “throwback to 90’s R&B with smooth vocals and production,” calling him one of the “Top 10 Most Slept On Canadian Hip-Hop and R&B Artists.” As he exits within multiple axes of identity, this crooner’s influence stems directly from his experiences with Black boy joy and pain. Lonely Boy plans to redefine urban music by working on his debut album ‘Love & Hennessy,’ which will be released fall of 2021 and financed by the Factor, Ontario Arts Council and City of Ottawa. Pro Testing (3am Edit) BUCKO Art Machine - Mood Ring Vol.II |
NEW LOCAL MUSIC!
PLAYING MEGAPHONO 2021! Chris Binkowski, also known as Bucko, is an emerging artist working primarily in electronic music performance. Central to Bucko’s work is the idea of music as a dynamic way to express oneself and connect with people. In his own words, Chris states “every time I perform music live it is an act of advocacy for inclusion and accessibility.” Technically, Chris utilizes an iPhone mounted to his wheelchair to control a myriad of synthesizer applications, generating interwoven gestures that range from deeply serene to outright unhinged. For the MEGAPHONO performance, Chris will present his expanded ensemble, known as the Bucko Art Machine. An initiative that involves additional instrumental accompaniment, this is an occasion for the signature Bucko sound to be elevated alongside producer Nick Schofield to create anthemic music stemming from a singular source. NEW LOCAL MUSIC!
PLAYING MEGAPHONO 2021! Hannah Judge has been a champion of the local music scene in Ottawa since before she even made music herself. From gifting mix CD’s to the newcomers in her life to cold emailing bands for opening slots in the local bars, Hannah’s passion for her community bled through music. After quietly creating demo’s in her bedroom and a brief involvement in a three piece girl rock band, fanclubwallet was formed and the single “Interstate” was released not long after in early 2020. With Hannah at the helm, the sound of fanclubwallet is often described as “carefully cultivated lo-fi”, “bedroom pop” (quite literally at times the music was made from bed whilst Hannah suffered from illness) and “casio-pop” while taking influence from bands like Hop Along, Casiotone For The Painfully Alone, and Frankie Cosmos. Hannah creates hi-fi / lo-fi soundscapes that feature raw and real lyricism, unique keyboard sounds, and funky bass lines to dance to.
