Yahweh Asuquomo - Diobu |
Never Die Asuquomo - Diobu |
NEW LOCAL MUSIC!
Ottawa artist Asuquomo came by the backyard for a socially distant chat session! I was very interested to hear all about his latest tracks, creating in isolation, and playing a show at the Drive In! From his Bio: Living in Canada for the past eight years and a recent citizen for two, Asuquomo is an Ottawa-based multidisciplinary artist and experimental emcee with roots from Port Harcourt, Nigeria. His latest EP, Diobu, was released on June 12th, 2020. Recorded between Ottawa and The Banff Center for Arts and Creativity, the four-track EP named after his birthplace, is a study of the African diaspora in Canada and the collective recollection of ancestry. ‘YAHWEH’, the lead track of the EP, is an enchanting prayer which considers the understanding of patience and how it modifies one's relationship with time. The creation of Diobu received financial support from the Ontario Arts Council and the City of Ottawa. Pop a Soda The Dead Centuries - s/t |
Tree Fort The Dead Centuries - Race Against Time |
Venus Gospel The Dead Centuries - Race Against Time |
LOCAL MUSIC FOUND ON REDDIT!
From their Bio: Ottawa three-piece THE DEAD CENTURIES are both futuristic and dangerous…which is as it should be. Influenced by Protest The Hero, Periphery, Paul Gilbert, Sithu Aye and Intervals, THE DEAD CENTURIES can easily hold their heads up in such exalted company. Composing and performing technically precise instrumental progressive metal, THE DEAD CENTURIES are rich in melody, compositional skills, and most importantly...they create superb music to listen to. This isn’t the sound of three musicians showing off their undoubted skills, rather they are serving their songs above all else, with every fibre of their beings, every neuron firing in their minds, every tendon in their bodies. In a sense it is as if the three musicians that make up THE DEAD CENTURIES have become one mind in their own music. More Dead Centuries here: https://www.thedeadcenturies.net/ |
Freya Robby Miller - Robby Miller |
NEW LOCAL MUSIC FOUND ON REDDIT!
From his bio: British born guitarist, Robby Miller grew up energized by North American rock music. After spending many years keeping his nose close to the grindstone, starting with his father's band and then weaving in and out of many teenage punk rock outfits, Robby created a name for himself as a hard working and passionate musician on the local scene. Robby continued full force with music and joined The Scruff (2014-2017) taking up lead guitar duties on their indie-pop anthems up and down the country as well as writing and recording at Monnow Valley Studios, famed for the Oasis 'Definitely Maybe' album. Robby spent 2 years living in the US (2017-2019) where he joined up with Ryan Roxie (Alice Cooper) on two US tours and European shows performing Ryan's impressive back catalogue and new releases from his 'Imagine Your Reality' album. During this time Robby also took the reins on bass guitar performing alongside Joel Kosche (Collective Soul). Robby's 20 years of performing, recording but most of all, loving music has allowed him to share the stage with the likes of Happy Mondays, We Are Scientists, D-A-D and Faster Pussycat, among others. NEW LOCAL MUSIC FOUND ON REDDIT!
From their bio: Strei is made up of Jeremy, Aaron, and Julien. Formed out of the ashes of previous projects, Aaron and Jeremy met as members of T-Rex Marathon and wanted to continue on various other side projects that had been bubbling. These projects are what would culminate into Strei.. A post-metal outfit that doesn’t really care about conforming to any one particular genre and prefers to write music in service of a larger experience. The music is chaotic yet controlled and all over the place in terms of genre which makes it so that every piece has a little something for everyone to enjoy. More Strei here: https://www.strei.ca/ |
Out 4 a Breather Dadsports - s/t |
NEW LOCAL MUSIC FOUND ON REDDIT!
From their bio: dad sports is a three piece bedroom pop band formed in the early hours of the morning, exploring the suburbs with only friendship and music to guide them. what began as an inside joke with a funny name quickly transformed into something new and exciting as bassist alex, drummer keith, and vocalist miguel found their stride in songwriting together. after self releasing a string of singles over the course of 2019, the band garnered the attention of many with their two latest singles "out 4 a breather" and "name & place". the band's sound is notably lo-fi and soft, yet equally high energy and emotionally potent. the group sets themselves apart by their use of electronic drum machines and softly layered vocals to create a warm and nostalgic sound.
