Happy Saturday night to you.. or if you are checking out the show via On Demand.... Happy Any night. haha :-) This show culminated in one of those rare episodes of Vintage Love, when a bunch of people seem to be on the same wave length and something strange.. if not magical happens. A pleasant day, mild temperatures for the closing days of January in The Nations Capital, so no complaints there. But as the afternoon turned to evening, the monstrous flakes of snow began to pile up. Slippery roads... picturesque scenes and everything in between mixed up in one Ottawa on a lazy Saturday afternoon. I thought... well, lets play some upbeat music tonight to lift spirits here and see if we can turn snowed in frowns upside down. So we ventured into the show starting with a classic sound.. something that would for sure play with those memories, if you grew up in or around the Caribbean or hung out around folks from the West Indies.... some steel pan. As always we enter the show with instrumental music and tonight was no different with Roger Gibbs covering Michael Jacksons' "Heal The World". If steel pan doesn't put you in a warm Caribbean mood.. I don't know what will. Following this some uplifting music from the Gospel Reggae world, featuring our own Canadian talent in that of Cora Reid Russell, with a quiet and reverent version of "Here I Am To Worship" followed by a clap your hands, tap your feet version of "Lord I Lift Your Name On High" by Carlene Davis and Junior Tucker. Into VL now, and a new song by Jah Cure featuring Mya, a great romantic lovers tune called, "Only You", Romain Virgo's birthday was on Friday (Jan. 24th) and so some Romain for you... a couple of songs, first, "Trouble" and then the pre-cursor to what detoured the show from my plan to your plan... Romain again with his cover version of "Stay With Me". A message on the Interactive Menu (IM), indicated that a listener was in the mood to hear covers tonight. So I put it to you all if you wanted to detour to covers or stay with whatever I had in store for you on this edition of Vintage Love. And so the improvisation of tonight's show began. Exclusively covers from that point on. Hitting you with classics (but in the genre Reggae of course) like, "The Closer I Get To You", "Always On My Mind", "Thinking Out Loud", "Kiss And Say Goodbye", "Right Here Waiting", "Rock Me (For Old Times Sake)".. so you could see where we were headed. Ya best take cover when these lovers covers shots are comin' atcha! ;-) Also, on tonight's show (just to name a few), Don Campbell with a birthday dedication to Mrs. B. for her birthday coming up next week, a truly fitting song for her, "Wind Beneath My Wings". Happy Birthday Mrs. B. You are truly a blessing to everyone you meet and know, and I am glad to see you reach another milestone. (also one of the best cooks, bakers.. you name it.. in the WORLD!!!!). Mrs. B., I can come over any time if you have left overs that are clogging up your fridge or freezer.. I am sooo willing to help out in this way. hahahhahhahh :-) But honestly, I love ya and thank you for your everything over the years. Wishing you the most blessings in health, wealth and everything that you hold dear. Respect! During the weather break we featured, Lauryn Hill from the Fugees and Tanya Blount with a truly incredible song.. whether you are Christian, religious or not.. just a sweet piece of music, their version of, "His Eye Is On The Sparrow'.. and i know he watches you and me. ;-) Followed by the late great Isaac Hayes and some Latin love brought to you by Pete Escovado with "Como Rien"... a beautiful ballad for you in any language on Sat. night.
