NOTE: The musical piece, From Above only appears as part of the On Demand version of the Guest List. It could not be included in the FM broadcast due to the 60 minute time limit of the program. Enjoy the extra music! The Guest List is sponsored by Spaceman Music, located at 388 Gladstone Avenue, just west of Bank. Check out Spaceman online at: https://www.spacemanmusic.com/ We open the show in conversation with Ottawa cellist Raphael Weinroth-Browne. He tells us about new music that he is creating and about several opportunities to see him performing in Ottawa over the next several weeks. He also tells us about creating music for dance troupes and how he will be spending most of March and April in Europe performing original music for BACH Reimagined with James Wilton Dance. His show at the National Arts Centre on Friday night is sold out but you can see him opening for Mdou Moctar on Monday, February 3 when he will be performing with kora player Siaka Diabate. He is also performing with members of Ottawa Dance Directive on February 10 and 11 at All Saints Event Space. The group is performing at Club SAW on Saturday, February 1 as part of the Ottawa Winter Jazz Festival. Vincent tells us how this large ensemble first got together and how they merge influences of funk, hip hop and New Orleans marching band traditions. He tells us how the group has been developing its indoor stage presentation after honing its chops for years playing outdoors! I spoke to Mikey back in October when Mdou Moctar and his band were scheduled to play at the Bronson Centre. That show had to be postponed, and now Mdou Moctar will be appearing solo at the Bronson Centre on Monday, February 3. Mdou is renowned for his electrifying solo shows. Mikey tells us about how Mdou Moctar is dedicated to preserving the language and the culture of the Tuareg people through his music and how seriously Mikey takes this when he is producing Mdou Moctar's albums. We also talk about the amazing sound of the guitar on his recordings. For more information about Mdou Moctar: https://www.mdoumoctar.com/ And for tickets to see his upcoming show, presented by Debaser: https://www.debaser.ca/event/mdou-moctar-t9c49 If you would like to hear more about Mdou Moctar's music and more of the interview with Mikey Coltun, check out the October 8th edition of the Guest LIst using this link: https://cod.ckcufm.com/programs/107/67140.html Thanks for listening to the Guest LIst today. Hi, there was a song that played just before the start of your broadcast and ended at 5pm. I can't find that song anywhere on the website (first time here) and I'm wondering if anyone could guide me to what that song was because I thought it was great. It was a Jaz song with a female artist singing over it.

Hi Roman. Unfortunately there is no posted playlist for the previous show Communautés croisées. I will ask our PD to see if he knows what's up. Check back there over the next few days... but if nothing gets posted it's a tough one to figure out. Sorry about that.
