Today we get to focus on a new trio he is performing in, along with Rebecca Foon (cello) and Sarah Neufeld (violin.) Although Richard is a multi-instrumentalist, as he explains in the interview he is focussing on playing the upright bass with Rebecca and Sarah. He tells us how these three friends finally got together to record during the COVID pandemic slowdowns and the album was finally released in late 2024 - it's called First Sounds. We talk about how they work together to create music and what we can expect when they perform live (for only the 2nd time as this trio) on Saturday, February 1st in the Alma Duncan Salon at the Ottawa Art Gallery as part of the Ottawa Winter Jazz Festival. We also talk about the joy of performing live (that is so evident in Richard's performances with all of his various groups) and what is going on currently with Arcade Fire.
