Rabble Without A Cause
Wednesday November 23rd, 2016 with Bernard Stepien
Gato Barbieri & Dollar Brand 1968

Following the passing away of Gato Barbari this year, we are continuing to honor his legacy, this time, one of his very early recordings from 1968, Confluence, that feature the great South African pianist Dollar Brand (Abdullah Ibrahim these days). This duo is interesting in many ways but one thing is sure, both musician sit on a quasi-opposite spectrum of music: Barbieri is in free improvisation while Brand is deeply rooted on African music with its rhythms and especially the ritualistic for of the ostinato.
