Jesse Stewart/William Parker/David Mott Sonoluminescence trio CD preview
Locally established percussionist and academic Jesse Stewart provides us continually with far reaching guests from both Canada or the US. Last year, Stewart brought Toronto baritone saxophonist and U. of Toronto academic David Mott, well known in Free Jazz circles and New York City Free Jazz legend bassist and musical extremist William Parker. Fortunately they did record. Their music on this occasion was a firework of carefully engineered multilayered perfectly improvised integrated styles. One piece pitched a dramatic ostinato on the bass against polyrhythmic and poly-dynamic developments on the drums on which the lyrical baritone saxophone was hovering like a bird of prey. Each piece featured all imaginable combinations of these basic principles with Parker engaging in a bowing frenzy while Stewart provides stability and so on.
Very fortunately, these recording have been turned into a CD which will be launched at another promising concert in two separate sets at Gigspace, this coming Friday, April 17th.
