Japanese Psychedelic Free Jazz/Noise: Kikuri
Free Jazz has many affinities with Noise Music. First of all, they are both based on the concept of free improvisation. The great Sun Ra understood this principle way back with his Moog synthetizer imitating the noise made by intergalactic rocket launches.
The Kikuri project is a fusion between two separate artists that appeared on the same stage at the Vitoriaville festival in 2007, Heiji Haino and Masami Akita.
The best part of this Victoriaville Festival recording ぶっ壊れた紫色 is the flash-back into Japanese traditional music with work on what appears to be a psychedelic shamisen, the Japanese three stringed lute.
