Toronto drummer Jean Martin & Montreal Frank Lozano Free Jazz Collective

The Free Jazz collective put together by Toronto drummer Jean Martin and Montreal saxophonist Frank Lozano is a very carefully engineered ensemble. For one thing it combines academia with U of Toronto lecturer trumpeter Jim Lewis and total free lancing and savagely exploring every form of music on earth of Montreal based guitarist Rainer Wiens that lately has developed a contraption that is a fusion between an electric guitar and the African sanza kalimba. All of that topped with extreme vocalist Christine Duncan that is well in line with the influence of British extraordinaire vocalist Phil Minton. Finally, the icing on the cake is probably the fact that saxophonist Frank Lozano, yet another Jazz academic these days plays Free Jazz which maybe explains why our own guitarist extraordinaire Roddy Ellias suddenly got involved into a Free Jazz tune in his last GigSpace concert here in Ottawa… Tonight we will explore their barnyard records 2012 recording at Canterbury Music Company in Toronto.
