Rabble Without A Cause
Wednesday May 26th, 2010 with Bernard Stepien
Sun Ra, Live at the Pit-Inn, Tokyo, 1988

This is a recording of the late period of Sun Ra, five years prior to his death. Think about it, 15 years way beyond the vanishing of the big band celebrities, Duke Ellington and Count Basie, Sun Ra's big band was thriving and all of this with a repertoire that was both radically different than the swing bands era and well in sync with it using well known standards. Sun Ra's fan base was constantly growing. Sun Ra ended up lecturing at Berkeley, his scores are stored at the library of congress as part of the national heritage.
