Welcome to in My Good Books, I’m your host, Pat Moore, here to read to you another story, this one is written by a storyteller from South Frontenac who I’ve featured before on this show. He’s been telling tales for years, but only started putting them to paper recently, perhaps with some encouragement from me. John and Micheline have been living the life of “back to the landers” since sometime in the early 1980’s when they were young parents seeking a wholesome life for their family. Many of John’s stories are of danger lurking and lessons learned, and some are of sheer love of nature and family. If you’ve had any notion that living off the land, working for yourself primarily, is the “life of Reilly”, well you’ll learn a thing or two about the hard work – the physical and mental effort put in to taking a virgin piece of land, taking only what you need, and lovingly preparing enough to service your requirements, keeping the wolves at bay (literal and figurative). You'll also hear the great poem by Ernest Lawerence Thayer, Casey at the Bat, and another wonderful poem , Robert W Service's The Spell of the Yukon.
