Today I’m bringing you two short stories…, The first is from the award winning book, published by Broken Keys, Thin Places – an Ottawa Anthology, winner of Faces of Ottawa 2021 Book of the year award! The story is Finders Keepers, written by Jamieson Wolf, narrated by Paul Atkinson. It’s a very intriguing story, and you’ll enjoy Paul’s warm deep voice too. Look for more from Jamieson Wolf on his website jamiesonwolf.com . Writer: Jamieson Wolf Publisher: Broken Keys Publishing Narrator: Paul Atkinson Book title: Thin Places: The Ottawan Anthology (winner of Faces of Ottawa 2021 Book of the Year) Jamieson Wolf's website: https://jamiesonwolf.com/ Book availability: Ebook: https://books2read.com/u/38ZNMV Print Edition: https://broken-keys-publishing.square.site/product/coming-soon-thin-places-the-ottawan-anthology/7?cs=true Paul Atkinson podcast: https://www.mixcloud.com/paul-atkinson16/songs-stories-supplemental-jazz-edition-pt-32/ the second story is Macario, by B Traven, and read by Sjef Frenken, who you’ve heard here before – and I just love how Sjef tells a tale. This story in it’s entirety runs for over one hour, so Sjef and I decided to split it over two shows – so you’ll hear the first part today, and the second part off the top next week. Just a couple of words about B Traven, it seems his country of origin is somewhere in Europe though he lived many years in Mexico. Even his date of birth is a mystery, but it could have been in Feb of 1882…or maybe May, 1890. He wrote twelve novels, one book of reportage and several short stories, in which the sensational and adventure subjects combine with a critical attitude towards capitalism. B. Traven's best known works include the novels The Death Ship from 1926, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre from 1927 (filmed in 1948 by John Huston), and the so-called "Jungle Novels", also known as the Caoba cyclus (from the Spanish word caoba, meaning mahogany). I’m looking forward to how Sjef brings this story to life. A few words about Sjef Frenken : he is a retired public servant, an author, and composer and musician. He has a number of books to his credit, and several recordings of compositions and stories. You’ll also find Sjef involved in many of Ottawa’s favourite folk club, spirit of rasputin’s events, in particular hosting their Monday night open stage. www.rasputins.ca
