Sue Foley - Pinky’s Blues Canadian New
This highly touted vocalist/guitarist originally hails from Ottawa, Canada, although her home base shifted to Austin, Texas, when she signed with Antone's Records and cut her debut set, Young Girl Blues, in 1992 (an encore, Without a Warning, quickly followed). Foley's wicked lead guitar makes her a rarity among blueswomen.

When she was a child in Ottawa, Foley listened to rock & roll and blues-rock groups like the Rolling Stones. Although these bands sowed the seeds of her affection for the blues, her love for the music didn't blossom until she witnessed James Cotton in concert when she was 15 years old. Cotton inspired Foley to pick up the electric guitar. During her late teens and early twenties, she jammed with local Ottawa bar bands. She didn't form her own group until she moved to Vancouver in the mid-'80s.

"I think we need to break up."

Seven words uttered in the dark, finally giving voice to turbulent thoughts. But what does it mean when you say goodbye to everything you knew? Everything that made you you?

Sarah Haley is an emerging artist who is currently completing her Masters of Theatre at UOttawa. In both her academic and artistic pursuits, she is focused on interdisciplinary performance and dramaturgy, especially as it pertains to culture, identity, and the self.

“Be/Loved was born from a time when I was unhappy with my relationship to my art, a time when creating art felt more self-exploitative than it did a creative pursuit. This period gave me a chance to reflect on my relationship with art, and Be/Loved represents a postmortem of that period.”

Seth Thompson is an emerging artist and creative technologist based in Ottawa, Ontario. Coming from a technical background in a Bachelors of Information Technology program at Carleton University, he is interested in the impact of technology on art. Recent work has included directing Stevie Nicks Is My Girlfriend for the Youth Infringenent Festival, as well as digital development on Cabine, an interactive production at Zones Théâtrales set inside a phone booth. He is also a member of Bizarre Love Triangle, a multidisciplinary arts collective of emerging artists working at the intersection of art and technology.

ABOUT FRESH MEAT FESTIVAL:
Fresh Meat is an artistic playground that gives local theatre creators a unique opportunity to test new ideas in front of an audience, Fresh Meat is unique to Ottawa and peerless in Canada. Each year, a group of Ottawa theatre makers are invited to create and perform a brand new 20-minute performance piece at our two-weekend festival in October. We look for ideas that are original and innovative, and that test the traditional boundaries of theatre. No idea is too out there and no idea is too simple; what matters is the artist’s passion for and dedication to their own project.

Mi Santuario
Sultans of String feat. Juan Carlos Medrano - Sanctuary Canadian New
Three-time JUNO Award nominees and Billboard charting band Sultans of String creates “energetic and exciting music from a band with talent to burn!” according to Maverick magazine. Thrilling their audiences with their genre-hopping passport of Celtic reels, flamenco, Django-jazz, Arabic, Cuban and South Asian rhythms, the group celebrates musical fusion and human creativity with warmth and virtuosity. Fiery violin dances with rumba-flamenco guitar, while bass and percussion lay down unstoppable grooves. Acoustic strings meet with electronic wizardry to create layers and depth of sound, while world rhythms excite audiences to their feet.

They are now releasing Sanctuary, the highly anticipated followup to their album Refuge. This ambitious, diverse, inclusive and passionate album puts the band face-to- face with a VIP roster of global ‘ambassadors’, some of whom are recent immigrants and refugees to Canada, as well as important Indigenous voices. All are masters of world music that tell the story of how to communicate with others through the global language of sound.
