"The tune is loosely based on a quote I read that really hit me in the core of my humanity, something along the lines of "all those days that went by, I guess that was my life". I hope this tune serves as a reminder to enjoy your coffee, call your loved ones and to make sure you're being treated with the love & respect you deserve." Jesse Daniel Smith

A chat with Ray Harris about the "Musical Tribute To David Wiffen" taking place Saturday, Sept. 14th, 7 to 8:30 pm at Cityfolk, Ravenlaw Stage

CityFolk and CKCU FM proudly present a tribute to very special guest of honour...

David Wiffen

A spectacular collaborative performance celebrating the works of singer-songwriter David Wiffen
with performances by...
Tom Wilson
Lynn Miles
Sneezy Waters
Neville Wells
Julie Corrigan
Sandy Crawley
Ray Harris - host

accompanied by...
Frank Koller - electric guitar
Don Marcotte - upright bass

With master of ceremonies - Chris White, CKCU FM

This 90-minute concert will pay tribute to the wonderful and influential Ottawa-based songwriter, singer and musician, David Wiffen.

Nine performers will be on stage together for this performance, with seven of them sitting in a semi-circle with Frank Koller and Don Marcotte standing behind them. The participants will take turns performing Wiffen-related songs, backing one another up musically and sharing anecdotes along the way. This special tribute will end with a rousing sing-along rendition of "Lost My Drivin’ Wheel" featuring all nine performers.

David Wiffen and his wife Joanne Wiffen will be on hand to share this celebration with everyone. CityFolk Director Mark Monahan will present the Helen Verger Award to David in recognition of his enduring contributions to Canadian folk music.

An oil painting created by visual artist Arthur II will be on display during the concert.

CKCU FM host Ray Harris, initiated this tribute inadvertently when he put together a playlist for Canadian Spaces with a segment focusing on David's songs. One thing led to another! The result is not only in this unique concert but also a two-hour special edition of 'Canadian Spaces' that will feature all of the same participants on CKCU FM that morning from 10 to noon!

This band draws its influence from such big band greats as Duke Ellington, Count Basie and the modern jazz harmony edge of Thelonious Monk.
