Just after 7:30 we have a quick chat with Alan Neal who is the creater and MC of Random Play event for Writersfest this Thursday, June 6th It features Kathleen Edwards, Basia Bulat, Tim Wilson, KoboTown and Lydia Ainsworth, all playing tunes that came up at random on my iPod. It's a very fun event that's a fundraiser for children's literacy programs... More details here https://writersfestival.org/events/spring-2019/random-play-with-alan-neal What is Random Play, you ask? Quite literally, it's the result of Alan Neal, host of CBC's All in a Day, putting his iPod on "random" to select music from his playlist of nearly 18,000 songs. He writes down the first 10 songs that come up and finds out everything that he can about how those songs came to be. He then brings those songwriters to the stage for Random Play, a special event where musicians explain and perform their songs. The result is a wonderful and bizarre combination of live performance and musical discovery, tied together with Alan's love for lyrical analysis and archival research. Plus, some of the strangest cover tunes you'll ever hear. This year's Random Play artists include: Lydia Ainsworth Basia Bulat Kathleen Edwards Kobo Town Tom Wilson Random Play is taking place Thursday, June 6 at 7 p.m. at Christ Church. For tickets and more information on this Ottawa International Writers' Fest event, click here: https://writersfestival.org/events/spring-2019/random-play-with-alan-neal Tickets range from $50 for members of the general public to free for Writers' Fest members. All proceeds from this event will support children's literacy programs in the region. |
