A phone interview with Anne Laalo, founder of the not-for-profit Annie & Company facebook.com/annieandcompany annieandcompany.ca Trish met Anne at the sand bag site on Armitage Rd. in Constance Bay during the volunteer flood relief efforts Anne, in her personal and professional life, has been involved with "nature's carbon tax" by volunteering and working professionally to help people facing the challenge and devastation of natural disasters. We'll talk about the effects of climate change, on a large scale, a community scale and a very personal scale. The costs of emergency responses, the first time and repeatedly, both financially and emotionally and the cost of not making the changes we need to in the way we live and use the planet's resources. ************************************ |

Theatre Kraken - 8:15 am Director: Don Fex Music Director/Composer: Kenny Hayes Lysistrata - by Aristophenes May 9–18, 2019 (Preview May 8) Tuesday–Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday matinee, May 11, at 2:30 p.m. The Gladstone Theatre, 910 Gladstone Avenue, Ottawa In a society where men call all the shots and women are confined to the role of docile housewife, what are the women to do when their men abandon them to fight seemingly endless wars? In Aristophanes’ Lysistrata, one woman comes up with a plan: convince all the women to go on a sex strike until the men come to their senses and make peace. What follows is a pitched battle of the sexes loaded with innuendo, biting social commentary, and ribald (sometimes even lewd) humour. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see one of Ancient Greece’s funniest plays, set against a backdrop of pristinely conformist, white-picketed suburbia. https://www.theatrekraken.ca/lysistrata |
