We are thrilled to have Matt Hertendy join us in the studio Directed by Paul Griffin Featuring: Megan Carty & Matt Hertendy Sound design: Martin Dawagne Cart Before the Horse Theatre Company are remounting their awarding-winning production of Lungs by Duncan Macmillan - however this time, they are upping the ante by teaming up with Nature Lab.World to offset the carbon footprint of their 8-show run. "How many trees would you have to plant to counteract the carbon footprint of a baby? Should anyone bring a child into a world of accelerating climate change? Are we dooming our children to life on a dystopian planet with no way to shield them from the future?" Cart Before the Horse is set to be the first theatre troupe in Ottawa, or perhaps Ontario, to offset the CO2 emissions of their production. The company hopes to not only spark a dialogue in eco-responsibility but also propel the audience into action. Cart Before the Horse will sponsor the planting of 32 trees to counter what they estimate to be 1 ton of CO2 emissions generated per show. NatureLab.World – an organization committed to restoring degraded ecosystems to promote the sustainable development of urban centers and rural communities around the world. “The questions raised in Lungs on the responsibilities entwined with reducing human-induced climate change really appealed to NatureLab.World’s vision that each and every one of us can make a difference”, says Lucie Viciano, responsible for business development and sales. “We are proud to be associated with this show and to support Cart Before the Horse’s pro-activeness in taking accountability for the estimated emissions related to audience members’ travels and to their own production operations.” The partnership aims to help raise awareness about carbon footprints and how easy it can be to offset. This intimate two-hander features a young couple struggling with the ethics of living in a carbon-fueled consumer society. Playing out over a background of anxiety over climate change, two people banter incessantly (or “have conversations”) about their place in the world and whether they should create another human being to join them. This “intense and visceral piece of theatre” garnered the company multiple awards and nominations Lungs plays in the Arts Court Library (2 Daly Ave) January 10-13th and 17-20th, 2019. Showtimes: 8 pm Thursdays - Saturdays, 2 pm Sundays Tickets range from $12-$20 and can be purchased online at: https://lungs.brownpapertickets.com WINNER: Ottawa Fringe Jury Award – Outstanding Ensemble Performance WINNER: Prix Rideau Award – Outstanding Direction WINNER: Prix Rideau Award – Outstanding Male Performance NOMINEE: Prix Rideau Award – Outstanding Overall Production NOMINEE: Prix Rideau Award – Behind the Rideau – Producing |
