The Passionate Friar
Monday April 2nd, 2012 with Phelonius Friar
Female vocalists from the UK and smarmy tracks from the US and Canada

Started off an extended set of female vocalists from the United Kingdom before heading across the ocean to the USA and north to Iceland. The Transisters song made me think of stuff from the Alan Parsons Project, so I had originally decided to do a little mini-feature of some psychotherapeutic music by Alan Parsons Project alumni Eric Woolfson off his theme album "Freudiana". Unfortunately, I apparently left the CD at home and couldn't find the tracks online to play, so I just winged it from there by playing an extra Squirrel Nut Zippers track. We then headed back into Canada for some deliciously cheesy MC tracks and then it was just made up from there with the disks I had.

Drewski
How about something obscure from Jefferson Airplane/Starship (Grace Slick vocals...)

@Drewski... Hmmm... I don't think I have any Grace Slick (seriously *seriously* love her stuff!), but I'll see if I can dig up anything in that style for my next show (I only have the CDs with me for the show I've put together). I'll post on the show highlights what I manage to dig up!

Thanks! I was forgetting about the 'dollar bin' requirement, not that there aren't some cut-outs of JA/JS. I have never listened to the band at all but have always liked her power vocals and have been reading and auto-bio lately. Hendrix is always appreciated, but for Jimi I would challenge you to play something I have not got in my collection or heard... One 'Like' coming up (when I get home tonight) thanks!

Drewski... I have gone through my dollar bin collection and I can't find anything by JA/JS (including covers). I did find a lounge-ish version of Hendrix's "Drifting" by guitar virtuoso Stanley Jordan, a cover of Clapton's "Sunshine Of Your Love" by Bobby McFerrin (it's actually surprisingly good), and The Mamas & The Papas' compilation album "California Dreamin'" (probably the closest musically to Jefferson Airplane). I plan to play the song California Dreamin' (again, the closest I can get) unless you let me know you'd prefer to hear one of the other songs I listed :).
