They looked for colors and lyrics, debated and discussed, they consulted books, sought the advice of experts. But just then, they saw birds sitting on a beautiful yellow flower. RAIL GAADI, NANI KI NAAV CHALI & PIYA BAWRI Kumudlal Ganguly (13 October 1911 – 10 December 2001), better known by his stage name Ashok Kumar and also fondly called Dadamoni, was an Indian film actor who attained iconic status in Indian cinema and who was a member of the cinematic Ganguly family. He was the first and only mega legend of Indian Cinema. Ashok Kumar barely ever lip synced to songs. Hardly ever during the later part of 50s or 60s. Picking his songs was quite like scraping an almost empty barrel. There were songs from late 30s and 40s, but I did not fancy all of them. Surprisingly, he sang some songs during his sunset years, in movies like Khatta Meetha (Roll Roll Makunisa) and the famous Pran and Ashok Kumar song from Victoria No. 203 (Do bechare bina sahare). We bring you two songs sung by Dadamoni. Composed by none other than Panchamda, and lyrics by Gulzar, Piya Baawri is an extremely melodious Indian classical song beautifully woven into a movie soundtrack. It is based on Raaga Bihagda ( in which we get Raaga Bihag and Khamaaj ). And then of course, Dada Moni’s rap. I don’t mean rap as in Yo Yo homie. Just listen to the video / song. The popular music composer had tested positive after he and his wife came back from the Maha Kumbh Mela a few days ago. When millennials think back on Hindi film music from the 1990s that is not by AR Rahman, chances are they are thinking of Nadeem-Shravan.
