The Hunger Pains (The Cravin' Blue Draws Et Al Extension)
What a day!!! I hope you took the opportunity to get out and enjoy the lovely summer weather today and this weekend. What a nice day to enjoy the sun... blue skies and the breeze. I had many chores on the list for today and so after the Raptors win and watching all the glorious post-game interviews etc. I finally went to bed.. well actually I finally crashed in my love seat and ottoman around 3am. Crazy.. because I knew I had to be up early to begin my spring chores. The sun woke me up at 6am and I began ticking off the chores list. A productive day BUT I miscalculated the daylight.. thinking that it wasnt so late. So now scrambling to shower and plan the show. Racing to the station. And here we are. About half way through the show... my tummy taps me on the shoulder and starts to sing.. a classic Champaign song, "How 'Bout Us". Then I realize.. I havent eaten yet today and it is around 11pm. Suddenly, I understand my tummy's frustration and say.. don't worry, soon come! When we get home. Cool. All good.. although belly now is growling impatiently. In the background of all these things going on internally.. we still managed to have music playing for you.
Starting the show (with what seems to me to be the first real days/weekend of summer) with a tribute to summer featuring The Johnny Arthey Orchestra with "Serenade To Summer", a real sweet instrumental with a cool summers vibe. Following that we moved into Kool & The Gang with a classic.. another instrumental called, "Summer Madness" which was sampled and used brilliantly by Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince paying homage to the sounds, the sights, the memories and the love of summer with "Summertime". Ya Hip Hop on the show but I feel a great way (musically that is) to welcome summer with open arms and smiles from cheek to cheek.
With the one and only Luciano coming to town next Friday night (June 14th), I played a double spin of his most popular songs, "Sweep Over My Soul" and the anthem... "It's Me Again Jah". Hoping you will support this event and see a living legend here in Ottawa. I always hear complaints as to why we don't have more stars passing through town and performing.. well attending these events is one way to convince promoters that the community is here and supports these events. So hopefully you will go. Hey, potentially a great early Fathers Day present for some of your Pops.
Following this, we heard artists such as Lord Creator (which brought in the phone calls) also Bob Marley & The Wailers by request. Etana by request as well (thank you for that request APM). Da'Ville, Gregory Isaacs, Jamelody, Toyin Adekale and more.
Also, big birthday greetings going out to Cynthia, wishing you a very happy birthday. For you, a little birdie told me a few songs that would probably encourage, "Playing With Those Memories Again" and since this is VL's motto.. how could we not. So stepping back in time, we pulled for you some Skeeter Davis, some Jim Reeves and some Carlene Davis for you. As we hope to add to the celebrations of reaching another milestone in life. Happy Birthday to you from your little birdie and from everyone at VL and CKCU... wishing you many more in health, wealth and happiness.
And then, the slow understanding of "the" surprise began!!!!!!
Did someone say the re-birth of After Hours?? Tune in and see for yourself. ;-)
