Automatic Version Penthouse Allstars - Digital Single (Automatic Riddim) - Penthouse Records (2009) |
Tribute to Bobby Digital who passed away on May 21 from complications due to kidney disease. He was 59.
One of reggae's great producers, Bobby Dixon picked up the name Digital while working as a sound engineer with Prince Jammy (later coronated to King Jammy) when the new digital sound was exploding during the 1980's. The music was built with drum machines and computerized keyboards, initially a Casio MT 40. Moving on in 1988 to his own studio and establishing the Digital-B label, Bobby Digital was a foundational force in the careers of Shabba Ranks, Sizzla, Garnett Silk and Morgan Heritage and produced tracks for a range of artists including Buju Banton, Cocoa Tea, Nadine Sutherland. Just a few of the tracks from a career that both made and will leave an impact on the music. |
