Friday Drive
Friday January 26th, 2024 with Trevor Walker

Happy Friday Drivers! Got a nice variety of new and old sounds in store for you all on this week’s offering. A little liquid Drum & Bass, Acid Jazz, Reggae, Cumbia and some classic Rise Ashen in the unwind portion in hour one and we’ll be taking it up quite a ways in hour two with some Disco, Samba vibes and a few left turns to wind you up for the weekend in the second hour. Kicking things off with an old favourite from United Future Organization’s self title second album and the beautiful Waltz, “My Foolish Dream” to get things rolling. Thank you for taking the time, happy listening and I hope you enjoy this week’s offering.

Life Drawing
@Art House Cafe
555 Somerset St., W.

We want to make sure that all of our artists and models are comfortable, respected, and able to work effectively! Here are some ground rules for our Life Drawing sessions to help make that happen.
1. Please keep all electronics off or silenced during the session.
2. Please only enter/exit the session in the breaks between poses.
3. Keep your voices down and conversations to a minimum while the model is posing. We love when local artists connect, but please wait for the halfway break or step outside to do so!
4. Artists own the work they produce during the session, and may share and distribute it how they wish. Models will never be identified by their full names.
5. Under no circumstances is the model to be touched or photographed by artists.
6. Comments, concerns, or feedback about any part of the session should be discussed directly with the facilitator.
If you have any questions or input for our ground rules, send us a message!

Bia Ferreira is a Brazilian singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and activist. Her music, which she defines as "MMP — Música de Mulher Preta," discusses topics such as feminism, anti-racism and homophobia. She makes music that harnesses a combination of funky beats, reggae and soulful ballad grooves while lyrically pushing her listeners toward the discomfort that generates "movemente,” or action. Her lyrics have been described as "escrevivência,” a term Conceição Evaristo uses to “tell our stories from our perspectives.” It represents the subjectivity of a Black woman in Brazilian society.

Keyboardist Mary Ancheta is a Canadian / Filipina artist who steps into the spotlight with her genre-bending, organic, modern take on jazz and electro-funk. Inspired by the likes of Squarepusher, The Meters, John Scofield, and Prince, Ancheta knows what’s up when it comes to arresting melodies and irresistible grooves with Trent Otter on drums, Dominic Conway on sax, and Matt Reid on bass.
