The Guest List
Thursday March 13th, 2025 with Joe Reilly
Interviews with Cadence Weapon and Mimi O'Bonsawin both appearing in Ottawa on Friday, March 14th

NOTE: This On Demand version of the Guest List includes six and a half additional minutes of music and interviews with Cadence Weapon that had to be edited from the show to fit the 60 minute format of the FM broadcast. The Guest List is sponsored by Spaceman Music, located at 388 Gladstone Avenue, just west of Bank. Visit Spaceman for all of your music making needs and don't forget they have a great repair shop and offer music lessons. Check out Spaceman online at: https://www.spacemanmusic.com/ We open today in conversation with the great Canadian rapper Cadence Weapon, talking about his last album Rollercoaster and his upcoming performance at the National Arts Centre's Fourth Stage on Friday (March 14th.) We talk about the important themes he's exploring on this recording - how we are wed to our devices and how social media shapes our thinking. He explains how he's trying to prompt our thinking about the impact of this technology using serious stories and humour. He also tells us how he's delivering these songs in solo performances, like the one he's doing at the NAC. For tickets to see Cadence Weapon at the NAC use this link: https://nac-cna.ca/en/event/37570 And for more information about Cadence Weapon and his music use these links: https://cadenceweapon.net/ https://cadenceweapon.bandcamp.com/album/rollercoaster-deluxe Then we check in with Indigenous singer-songwriter Mimi O'Bonsawin, who is performing at the Gladstone (910 Gladstone Avenue - formerly the Great Canadian Theatre Company) on Friday (March 14th) as well. Her concert is part of a special Winter Festival that's running all week at the Gladstone. We talk to Mimi about how the natural environment is integral to her life and culture and how she celebrates that in songs like The River. We also talk about why she released a live album last year, how the National Arts Centre's mentorship program has really helped her career and what we can expect when she plays the Gladstone on Friday. For tickets to see Mimi O'Bonsawin at the Gladstone use this link: https://thegladstone.ca/shows/mimi-obonsawin/ For more information about the Gladstone's Winter Festival use this link: https://thegladstone.ca/shows/ottawas-wintertime-music-festival/ And for more information and more music by Mimi O'Bonsawin use these links: https://www.mimi.ca/ https://mimiobonsawin.bandcamp.com/ Thanks for listening to the Guest List today.
