Thursday March 6th, 2025 with Joe Reilly
We talk to Rachel Weldon of Debaser, Piu and Witch Prophet all about Pique this weekend at Arts Court, and we talk to Basia Bulat about her show at the NAC Friday

NOTE: This On Demand version of the Guest List includes 12 additional minutes of music and interviews that had to be edited from the show to fit the 60 minute format of the FM broadcast. The Guest List is sponsored by Spaceman Music, located at 388 Gladstone Avenue, just west of Bank. Visit Spaceman for all of your music making needs and don't forget they have a great repair shop and offer music lessons. Check out Spaceman online at: https://www.spacemanmusic.com/ This is a jam packed show today and we kick off with a focus on the upcoming Pique, the Spring Edition. This is when the local music presenting organization Debaser takes over the entire Arts Court Building and fills it with music, visual arts, other artistic presentations, panel discussions, workshops and so on! It's an amazing event that you can attend for whatever you can afford to pay. This Spring edition features two days of programming, Friday, March 7th and Saturday, March 8th. Rachel Weldon is the Director of Debaser and she joins us off the top to talk about what's new at the Spring edition of Pique. For more information about Pique use this link: https://thisispique.com/ Then we talk to two amazing artists appearing as part of Pique. First up we talk to Priyanka Roy who composes, records and performs stunning electronic music under the name Piu. We talk about how her background as a raga vocalist is an important part of her musical creations, and how she mixes a lot of other influences into her sound. Her connection to the environment and her use of analog and modular synthesizers helps to shape her warm, ambient sound. You can see Piu performing on Saturday night at 8 p.m. in the Arts Court Theatre as part of PIque. For more information and music by Piu use these links: https://www.piusounds.com/ https://soundcloud.com/piusoundwaves https://piusound.bandcamp.com/ Then we check in with Witch Prophet, appearing on Friday night (March 7th) at 8:45 at Club SAW as part of Pique. Witch Prophet and her production and life partner Sun Sun, create amazing music together bringing together elements of jazz, soul, r&b and hip hop in a beautiful, cerebral mix. Witch Prophet tells us about the way she creates with Sun Sun and how the songs on Gateway Experience reflect some health issues she had and how this was tied to amazing visions she had. It's a riveting and mind-altering story, that is now reflected in song on Gateway Experience. For more information and music by Witch Prophet: https://www.witchprophet.com/ https://witchprophet.bandcamp.com/ Finally, we talk to Basia Bulat, who is appearing in the Babs Asper Theatre of the National Arts Centre on Friday, March 7. Basia just released her seventh album Basia's Palace and it's a very warm collection of songs that take you inside Basia's world... on many different levels as she explains in the interview. She tells us how these songs came together on this album and what to expect when she performs at the NAC. For tickets to Basia Bulat: https://nac-cna.ca/en/event/37334 And for more information about Basia and her music: https://basiabulat.com/ https://basiabulat.bandcamp.com/album/basias-palace Thanks for listening to the Guest List today.
