We open the show in conversation with Cree-Metis artist iskwē. She has recently released a series of fantastic singles and is coming to perform at the National Arts Centre's Azrieli Studio on Wednesday, November 29th. iskwē tells us about the themes in the two songs we play today and about working with producer Damian Taylor on these powerful new songs. She also tells us about the musicians who will be working with her at the NAC and how they will bring a very different approach to these songs and others from her repertoire. We talk to Kiran about her amazing music that blends her roots in Indian classical, Sufi, Ghazal and Punjabi folk music with West African Blues, Jazz and American R&B. She tells us about how she works with her partner and guitar player Rez Abbasi and about the new music they are creating together for a new album Comfort Food coming in April, 2024. It is a perfect venue for her personal, alt-folk/pop songs. We talk about how the songs on her latest album Could Have Done Anything are like personal notes to people in her life and she explains that in fact they are. She also talks about working with Josh Kaufman of Bonny Light Horseman on that album and who will be performing with her at the NAC tonight.
