The Guest List
Thursday January 6th, 2022 with Joe Reilly
The newest album from Silla and Rise is Silarjuaq and we talk to Charlotte Qamaniq and Rise Ashen about this vital and uplifting new recording.

At the start of our annual funding drive in early November, I had the pleasure of speaking to Charlotte Qamaniq and Rise Ashen about the new Silla and Rise album Silarjuaq. We featured an excerpt from that interview on the Guest List during funding drive, and today we finally get to hear all of the interview and many great pieces of music from the new album. Hear about how they work together to meld Inuit Throat Singing with amazing, big beats to create one of the most important vibes in Canadian music today! Charlotte talks about how the discovery of unmarked graves at residential schools across Canada was the impetus for one powerful song on this album and she talks about the importance of continuing Inuit traditions through this music. Rise Ashen tells us about his role in creating this music and takes us behind the scenes of creating several amazing pieces. Learn more about Silla and Rise on their website: https://sillaandrise.com/ Thanks for listening. Stay well and stay safe. Support independent music and support Indigenous music.

Thanks HB... it was a good one to put together. Both Charlotte and Rise were very gracious in sharing their ideas and their time.
