Interviews with John Calabrese of Danko Jones and Gordie Johnson of Big Sugar

To kick off the show we talk to John Calabrese, the bassist with Danko Jones, about the group's new album Power Trio. If you're not familiar with the band, Danko Jones takes its name from the frontman and guitarist, Danko Jones, and the group has been playing since 1996 and has recorded 10 albums since 2002. Danko is a fiery, enthusiastic frontman and John has been the bassist with the band since the beginning. We talk to John about some of the themes on the new album, how they recorded during the pandemic and what it means to be rockin' with his friend for 25 years. Gordie has been recording with his power blues outfit Big Sugar since 1991 and he's also recorded with other musical projects like Sit Down Servant and Grady. He will be coming to Ottawa to perform on Monday, December 13th in the intimate setting of Club SAW. It will be a great place to take in a solo performance with Gordie to really see his masterful guitar playing up close and personal. We talk to Gordie today about what you can expect from Gordie in a solo performance and how he's not really stripping down his songs for this tour... it's more like going back to their origins as it's just Gordie and his guitar (and some bass pedals as we learn in the interview.) Gordie talks about living in Austin and the music scene there, about releasing a record (Eternity Now) just as the pandemic started and about a special song for his teenage daughter ("Strange Spectacular.")
