The Guest List
Thursday December 2nd, 2021 with Joe Reilly
Andy Maize (Skydiggers), Charlie Angus (Grievous Angels/NDP MP for Timmins-James Bay) and Torquil Campbell (Stars) join us on the show to talk about upcoming concerts in Ottawa.

Note: There is an additional interview segment with Andy Maize and Charlie Angus in this On Demand version of the Guest List as well as one extra song by Stars. We kick things off in conversation with Andy Maize of the Skydiggers and Charlie Angus of the Grievous Angels, who also happens to be the House of Commons-rockin' NDP MP for Timmins-James Bay. They tell us about their star-studded concerts at the National Arts Centre this weekend (Dec. 3rd and 4th), when they will be joined by Jill Barber, Matt Mays, Jim Bryson, Amaka Umeh, and Ansley Simpson. They give us the background stories for some great songs and reminisce about their early days making music in Toronto. They also talk about the connections between artists and audiences that form in tight-knit music scenes. For ticket information use this link: https://nac-cna.ca/en/event/29252 And for more information about the Skydiggers and the Grievous Angels, and for more music by both bands use the links below: https://skydiggers.com https://grievousangels2.bandcamp.com When we check in with Torquil Campbell of Stars, the importance of the connection between the artist and the audience also comes up as Torquil talks about the amazing bond between Stars and its fanbase. We also discuss how Torquil and Stars feel about heading back out on the road after a long COVID hiatus and he reveals plans to release a new Stars album in April of 2022. And of course we talk about Spotify and how streaming services simply don't pay artists properly for the use of their art. Stars is appearing at the Bronson Centre on Monday night, December 6th. For ticket information go to: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/stars-the-together-tour-tickets-196116599027?aff=ebdsoporgprofile For more information about Stars: https://www.youarestars.com https://starsband.bandcamp.com/music Get out and see some live music and remember if you have a streaming service it does NOT pay artists enough for using their music. So if you love an artist or band, be sure to purchase their music if you can afford to do so... and enable those artists to make a living so they can continue to produce beautiful and engaging music for us to enjoy.
