An interview with Justin Rutledge about his new album Islands
First up, please note that if you listened to the FM broadcast of this show, you did not hear the last interview segment in with Justin talks about the influence of Gord Downie on his writing and his decision to include his cover of the Tragically Hip's Nautical Disaster on this new album. In fact, you heard a short segment of the song St. Peter to end the FM broadcast.
Today we talk to Justin Rutledge about his new album Islands. On this album, Justin revisits some old songs from his past eight releases and he presents them here in simpler, new recordings. We talk about the decision to make this album and how he chose the songs to include. We also talk about the recording process and how it felt to be going back to these older songs. We also talk about the decision to record the song Federal Mail without any vocals and to present it as an instrumental and the decision to finally record a version of Jelly Bean - a song that almost always closes Justin's shows and is a crowd favourite.
We also talk about Justin's upcoming virtual concert, happening on Sunday, March 28 at 7 p.m. - it's a Side Door Access presentation.
