The Guest List
Thursday February 28th, 2019 with Joe Reilly
Interviews with Reuben and the Dark, Altameda, Sun-K, and Saxsyndrum

Another busy show with great music and conversations with 4 artists. We open with Reuben Bullock of Reuben and the Dark. The band is touring in support of a powerful and exhilarating second album, "Arms of a Dream" and will finally be in Ottawa at the 27 Club on Sunday night (March 3.) Reuben talks about how many of the songs on the latest album grew out of dreams that he was experiencing and how he likes to work with vivid and ambiguous language in his lyrics. Through the discussion we see the Reuben is more interested in evoking feelings rather than relating a straight narrative in his songs. https://reubenandthedark.com/ https://www.spectrasonic.com/event/1789363-reuben-dark-ottawa/ Next up we talk to Erik Grice of Altameda, the band that will be opening up for Reuben and the Dark at Club 27 on Sunday night (March 3.) Erik fills us in on some of the ideas behind the song Wish Upon The Weather and how the band sees itself in context with other artists who have made great music over the years. http://altameda.net/home Then Kevin Michael Butler and Kristian Montano of Sun-K check in from the hot tub of their Airbnb in Peterborough to talk about their latest album "Bleeding Hearts" and the tour that brings them to Live On Elgin on Friday night (March 1.) We talk about some of the ideas behind the song War and whether or not guitar rock is still alive and well. https://www.sunkofficial.com/ https://www.facebook.com/events/779928572369873/ Finally we talk to Dave Switchenko of Saxsyndrum about his group's electro sound. Dave explains that the group creates everything live when they perform and how he likes to have that "real" element to a live performance rather than using computers and tracks. He also fills us in about a new album coming in the Spring on So Sorry Records. You can see Saxsyndrum at Black Squirrel Books on Friday night, March 1. https://saxsyndrum.com/ https://www.blacksquirrelbooks.ca/ Get out and see some live music this week and buy some music from artists - they need your support to keep making great music. Streaming isn't enough folks!
