5 LIVE Artist interviews in 60 minutes ... tick tick tick...Interviews with Lindy Vopnfjord, Fred Eaglesmith, Suuns, Harrow Fair and Mystery Weekend

OMG IT WORKED! 5 artist interviews in 60 mintues. Everybody called on time... everybody had interesting things to say... and it was a blast!! First up we talked to LIndy Vopnfjord about his latest album Frozen in Time. It has some pretty amazing narrative songs on it and Lindy tells us the stories behind the songs we spin on the show and about how he created this stripped down album by starting with basic tracks and then asking for musical input from artists around the world - including Bob Egan of Blue Rodeo and Luc Doucet of Whitehorse. You can play the full songs at his website and check him out playing solo at Algonquin College's Observatory on Monday, March 13. https://lindymusic.com/music https://lindymusic.com/shows Next up we check in with Fred Eaglesmith who also stripped things back for his new album Standard. Fred explains that he wanted the stories to be the focus of the new recording and that his wife and musical collaborator Tif Ginn kept him on track with that during the recording process. We talk about Old Things and nostalgia and getting older and how these things have worked their way into the sound of Standard. Fred is playing at the NAC Studio on the 16th of March... the gig is sold out... but maybe a ticket or two might get released on show day.... you can always hope! https://nac-cna.ca/en/event/14651 https://www.fredeaglesmith.com/ Then it's on to Montreal's experimental rockers Suuns (pronounced Soons!) We talk to Ben Shemie about the sound on the group's latest album Hold/Still and how producer John Cogleton helped them to craft the new recording project. He also talks about how much the band loves to peform live just as he was preparing to play at Zaphod Beeblebrox tonight, March 2. Don't miss this show. http://www.secretlycanadian.com/artist/?name=suuns http://www.spectrasonic.com/event/1421931-suuns-ottawa/ Harrow Fair is a group that brings together the musical talents of Miranda Mulholland (formerly of the Great Lake Swimmers) and Andrew Penner of the Sunparlour Players. With guitar, fiddle and a big old kick drum this duo kicks up some gritty musical dust that is part rock, part blues and all kindsa roots music parts... but it's heavy on the grit! Their debut album is literally a musical Call To Arms and you can hear them bringing the music to life at the Black Sheep Inn on Friday, March 10th. We talk to Miranda about how she and Andrew got together making music and how their creative process works. http://www.harrowfair.ca/ https://www.theblacksheepinn.com/ And we wrap it all up with Mystery Weekend. This power-pop-punk group brings together Rody Walker and Michael Ierada of Protest the Hero with Dan Hay of Fully Down. We talk to Rody about the dangers of nostalgia, although this group formed out of the members nostalgia for their skate punk days and the bands they loved back then like NOFX. Rody is fully capable of poking fun at himself. He is also quite frank in talking about how freeing it is to play with Mystery Weekend and break out of the seriousness of the metal scene that he is very much a part of when he is out on the road with Protest the Hero. It's an interesting conversation! Mystery Weekend plays at Mavericks on Saturday, March 11. https://mysteryweekend.bandcamp.com/releases https://www.facebook.com/mysteryweekendband/ http://www.mavericksbar.com/ This was a great show and what diversity of music: not often you hear a show with 5 live interviews with such diverse musical acts anywhere else... FUN. Thanks to all the artists for being on time and understanding about the short time periods for each interview!! Get out and see some live music this week!

like the way Lindy takes a subject like surveilence state and makes it into a uplifting hopeful song, kind of like on my way home the subject matter overpowering but not so much that it drowns out the will or hope.
