Interviews with Justin of Susto, Joel Plaskett, Craig Stickland and Alejandra Ribera

Another fun, jam packed hour of interviews and great music - all artists coming to town in the next couple of weeks! First up we talk to American (South Carolina) songwriter Justin Osborne about his group Susto and the group's new album & I'm Fine Today. We talk about the themes on the album that talk about finding oneself (geographically and spiritually) and how Osborne's own journey led him to creating these songs. Susto opens up for the Lumineers here in Ottawa on Tuesday, March 21. I said the wrong date and day talking about this gig... so sorry. https://www.sustoisreal.com/ Next up we talk to Joel Plaskett. The well-known and much loved Canadian rocker has just released a new album with his 75 year old father, Bill Plaskett. The album is called Solidarity and it features a great mix of old English folk songs, and originals written by Joel and Bill. Joel talks about the process of recording with his Dad and what we can expect when they get out on the road and play gigs, landing here in Ottawa on Saturday, March 18 at the National Arts Centre in Southam Hall. https://nac-cna.ca/en/event/14642 http://joelplaskett.com/ Next up we talk to Craig Stickland, who is out on the road opening up for Matt Good and brings his music to Ottawa at the NAC on Thursday, March 16th. We talk about winning over the Matt Good audience night after night and the lessons Craig learned out touring as part of Alessia Cara's band when she was opening for Coldplay last year on a huge spring/summer tour. He's looking forward to getting back into the studio to record songs for his second album. http://www.craigstickland.com/ Finally we wrap up with Alejandra Ribera. She has just released a beautiful, lush new album called This Island. We talk about the process of getting these songs worked out with her band in the studio and how positive that process was. We also talk about L. Stu Young who is the engineer on the album... as Stuart was the assistant production manager here at CKCU a few decades ago and always great to hear what a positive and strong force he is in the Canadian recorded music scene. You can see Alejandra bring this music to life at the NAC on Friday, March 17. https://nac-cna.ca/en/event/14650 http://alejandraribera.com/ Great music and good chat... get out and see some live music this week.
