Interviews with Steve Hackett, Pete of Dandy Warhols and Ron Hawkins

Three great interviews with veteran music makers on the show today and lots of great music from all over the map. We start off with Steve Hackett who created the signature guitar sound for the band Genesis back in the 1970s. Since those days with Genesis Steve has released more than 30 solo albums and we talk about the process of picking old songs and new songs for the current tour and where he draws inspiration to keep creating so much music. He will appear at the Casino du Lac Leamy in Gatineau on Sunday night (April 10th)and will perform one set of his solo material and one set of Genesis songs in a 3 hour extravaganza!! Sounds exhausting but a blast! http://www.casinosduquebec.com/lacleamy/en/shows-events/steve-hackett-acolyte-to-wolflight-tour-with-genesis-revisited http://www.hackettsongs.com/ Next up we hear from another guy with a long record of making great music as we talk to Pete Holmstrom of the Dandy Warhols. The group has been making diverse pop-rock music since 1994 and the latest album Distortland features a wide variety of sounds. Pete talks about how some songs don't make it into the live setlist and the challenges they feel in putting together the list of songs they will be playing on tour every time they go out. We also talk about catching lightning in a bottle with the group's mega hit "Bohemian Like You" and what went into picking the songs for Distortland. Check out the Dandy Warhols on Saturday night (April 9th) at the Bronson Centre. http://www.dandywarhols.com/ http://www.spectrasonic.com/event/1075033-dandy-warhols-distortland-ottawa/ Finally we talk to Ron Hawkins. Ron fronted the Lowest of the Low back in the 90s and since that band called it quits he's released a series of great solo albums. His latest is Spit Sputter and Sparkle and it is full of thoughtful and provocative songs. We talk to Ron about the themes he's exploring on this album and what keeps his creative juices flowing as he moves into his 50s. Ron is at Ritual on Friday (April 8) with Lowest of the Low. http://www.spectrasonic.com/event/1096421-lowest-low-ottawa/ http://www.ronhawkins.com/ Lots of great choices so get out and see some live music this week.
