The Guest List

Interviews with Dan Boeckner of Operators, David Francey and Laila Biali
Operators create a fantastic blend of electronic dance music and analog rock music (think maybe LCD Soundsystem or Holy Fuck with lyrics) and we get to talk to Dan Boeckner about how the group creates this mix and we hear how the group Japan influenced the sound of Operators. Operators will be at Ritual on Thursday, Feb. 25th. Don't miss them.

David Francey's songs always touch a chord and frequently tell amazing stories. We talk to David about his brand new album Empty Train. He is coming to town on March 4th at the National Arts Centre but the show is sold out. Pick up the album and catch him the next time he's playing around town.

Finally we catch up with Laila Biali. We talk about her latest music project House of Many Rooms - her first album that features her own songs in a pop music setting. Laila is known for her work in the jazz world and her role as a backup vocalist for Paula Cole, Suzanne Vega and Sting so this album is a big step for her. She talks about balancing family life and life as a musician, and what she learned from working with Vega and Cole... and the very personal nature of her songs. She is performing with a trio at the NAC on February 27th.

Thank you Joe for the great chat with Laila Biali, one of my favourite musicians. We play her often on Window of Opportunity and Over my Head, and of course have tickets for the 4th Stage next Sat. Check out this video I took the last time she was there a year ago: http://bit.ly/21eMZRK
