Ottawa saxophonist Linsey Wellman new CD preview
Saxophonist Linsey Wellman has a steady trail of recordings and especially solo recordings where he particularly excels. Multiphonics and constant sheets of sounds within a minimalist context thanks to a marvellously mastered technique of circular breathing have so far been the three main qualities of Wellman. His new CD “Manifesto”, explores new directions with complex swirling phrases that cross all textures you can imagine from classically clean to funky multiphonics with peaks and valleys even throwing some repetitive minimalism but in a constantly changing content. At times, he masters some of the techniques developed by the great Evan Parker that consists in having several lines in parallel, each with its own texture.
Tonight, Linsey will be in the studio to explain us the concepts behind this new recording.
This CD will be officially released during a live solo performance on January 27th at the Hull located new cultural centre called Daïmôn at 8pm sharp.
