Istanbul’s pianist Ayşe Tütüncü’s Fusion
Istanbul is one of the most fascinating city in the world. Since ancient times, it has taken advantage from being on strategic crossroads where every single folk, far or close end up going through, usually bringing along some music. The modern Istanbul is bustling with musicians, both local and international. Turkish pianist Ayşe Tütüncü stretched this natural fusion even further by incorporating every kind of music that can be found in Istanbul. Her European classical music training provided her with an acute sense of orchestration. Jazz, written Caz in Turkish, is among the priorities. Modal improvisation for Turkish musicians is built-in and the extensive collection of rhythms so different from the prevailing 4/4 pulse of Jazz is guaranteed to add flavor but maybe the most interesting part of Tütüncü’s music is that it doesn’t fall into easy orientalism.
If you go, you will have plenty of Jazz to enjoy: http://caz.iksv.org/en
