Bass player & composer Johnny 'Mbizo' Dyani was born in South Africa in 1945. He went into exile as a member of the Blue Notes in 1964, and eventually settled in Denmark and Sweden. To the best of my knowledge, he never performed or recorded in the US, although he did tour South America with Steve Lacy in 1966. He died an untimely death in 1986, aged 40.
