Anthony Joseph immediately brought to mind slam poet (Prof) ML Liebler. Sale turn of phrase; similar voice, but jazz rather than rock. Check him out on iTunes; try 'Blood in the Moon,' Liebler did some performances in Ottawa in 2004; see http://beatles.ncf.ca/liebler.html. New Orleans spasm music gave rise to skiffle which helped the Beatles get started (Quarrymen).
