The Steve Swallow Contrast

Steve Swallow began his professional career playing the acoustic double bass. But in the early 70's he switched permanently to the electric 5 string bass which would define his sound. Today we hear Steve Swallow on acoustic double bass on Chick Corea's 1966 album TONES FOR JOAN'S BONES in the first hour. In the second hour we hear Steve's 1974 duo recording HOTEL HELLO with Gary Burton.

Aaaaahhhh laddies...........another trip down the rhythmic path of the bass. BTW, after the last show I ordered the Complete Trio Recordings And Sunday at the Village Vanguard both on CD.. Thanks for introducing me to Scott Lafaro !! Turning up the background sounds in the club was a stroke of genius !!! Looking forward to a new journey today. I am not familiar with Steve Swallow. But I have 2 very astute professors to direct my attention lol.

Somehow I knew you'd be salivating like Pavlov's dog for this up and coming show Neil. But what can only be described as cruel and unusual punishment is you having to wait an eternity.....ie. two weeks. The pain and suffering would certainly be humanely alleviated if the wait was but a week. Just saying......... Enjoy the show!!.....as I'm sure the rest of us surely will.

I feel you Ollie. I have been known for speaking aloud of my desire for some "weekly space" for our 2 professors who would love nothing better than to grab dat mantle lol.

Shubham, this was Jim's idea to focus on Steve Swallow. Nice contrast with these two records. Thanks for the kind words.

Jim, I think we need to give you a "super hero" moniker like......"The Descriptor". You are a master of musical description !
