Bedtime Stories
Tuesday March 9th, 2021 with Chris Lyne
Something Borrowed.....

Ever found yourself house-sitting for a friend, only to discover their collection of albums and cds contains not just titles you've never heard of, but artists that you know nothing of either? So what do you do? Well, if you're anything like me, you have a browse through, and out of curiosity, have a little listen. In tonight's edition you'll hear tunes that I've either come across in other people's collections or that've been recommended by CKCU listeners. "THE LISTENING ROOM": come and get involved in helping select tunes for upcoming editions of "Bedtime Stories": we're looking for tunes you'd recommend on any of the following: Tunes you've heard in other people's collections. Artists that you saw at your first or most recent gig. Tunes that promote racial equality. Local artists that you'd like to recommend to other listeners. Just enter your recommendation(s) on the Playlist (at any time you like); we'll endeavour to include your selections in future editions of the show. Next edition of Bedtime Stories: 23 March 2021. Part 2 of our chat with Ottawa's Mike Carss, the prolific musician behind the (mainly) ambient music of Altus.

Hi Chris, If you listen to CKCU, this happens all the time! My music collection has grown in leaps and bounds, thanks to the Mighty 93,

True confessions of a babysitter.....I.always went looking through people’s music collections after the kids were safely tucked away in bed. I did this while holding my breath, lest I hear the litter-patter of little feet behind me.

Hi Shelley, very true, there are a couple of tunes in tonight's show that I've "borrowed" from other CKCU shows ;-) (and said so!)

Evening anonymous, sounds very familiar - although I didn't really do an awful lot of baby sitting myself. Hope those tunes weren't too long if you were holding your breath ;-)

I’m enjoying this string of tunes. I have never heard this song by America before. Alexis Neon—isn’t that the name of a place?

Thanks Shelley, the band America were sons of US military staff based in London. I suppose they could've called themselves "Middlesex", but .... :-)

Your sister had really diverse tastes in music. While growing up, my father had a friend with a massive music collection. We loved to visit him as he was only too happy his favourite tunes for us. One song that sent us kids into hysterical laughter, “Yas, Yas, Yas!” Dave van Ronk does a version of it but I don’t know which version I heard when I was a kid.

Yes there are some place names that just wouldn’t make good names for bands. Some bands name themselves after the street where one or two of the band members live, as is the cast Ottawa’s “The Haig” so named for Haig Drive here in Ottawa.

Oh, this Santana song.....I too discovered this one in a friend’s music collection waaaaay back in our late high-school/ early University days. Haven’t heard this in years.

I can hear a hip hop band called "Bronson Avenue" maybe Shelley , but probably not "Woodroffe" or "Carling" :-)

Hi Chris! Good tunes. I first heard Sneezy Waters watching a Bud's place... now I'm learning the great " Sawdust on the Floor Of Your Heart". Heard Vicki Brittle today on CKCU, Special Blend...

By coincidence I was going to play Crack of Dawn this evening, but also heard the same track fairly recently on Ma's Local Connection
