Altus - The Music Of Ottawa Musician Mike Carss (part 1)

This evening we venture into a songless-world; ambience, instrumental and electronic compositions throughout. And we have the first part of a feature on Ottawa musician Mike Carss, whose work is mostly released under the name "Altus". Mike has an extensive back catalogue stretching back 20 years or so, plus he has a recently released album to discover. 2021 will be another busy year for Mike, aiming to compose and record more albums between now and 2022. Shortly before Christmas Mike joined me in the show's virtual "Listening Room" for a chat about his career and works to date. This evening's show will feature the first part of our conversation, with more to follow in Part 2 (in a few weeks time; date to be confirmed). Mike's catalogue of albums, some of which are now available for free or at very low cost, can be found here: https://altusmusic.bandcamp.com/music

Hello Chris, I’m really looking forward to this show. I first heard Altus when listening to a show called Hot Gossip Then Home” while on a bus. I was so entranced by the music that I almost missed my stop!

This is LOVELY! 24 Hours is beautiful. Daybreak is a favourite of mine—very inspiring—you can hear a lot of joy in that song. Nightfall is just perfect for winding down.

There’s a familiar voice......I try to remember to spell out names as there are those who are using screen-readers. It is so interesting to hear about Mike’s early influences.

Shelley, thanks, your point about spelling out names for people using screen readers is an important one,, it's not something that would be immediately apparent to sighted listeners.
