Reading A Fatal Grace, Chapters 20, 21

We left off last week with Gamache at Clara and Peter’s place so he could use their video player to play a tape found in CC’s garbage – The Lion in the Winter. Agent Nicole was rushing back to Three Pines – she’d stopped in at home and we learned a bit about her family background, and the pressure he father perhaps unwittingly placed on her to do well. He loved her, but he was caught in his own past. We learned that it was he who told her to dress drably, saying the Chief Inspector would like that. It wasn’t a happy home life she had. She wanted so badly to get back to Gamache with whatever she found that she was driving maniacally, getting way to close to the car in front, not realizing that the driver was Agent Lemieux.
