Marriage Story: Some goodbyes are Irish, Man
This week, the Joshes go on the air just minutes after the announcement of the Golden Globe nominations, and share thoughts on the performance of The Farewell (2019), Joker (2019), and, as always, Parasite (2019).
Then it's into reviews of two much-nominated films from Netflix. First up is The Irishman (2019), Martin Scorsese's visual effects extravaganza. Josh B. is halfway there, and the end was enough to make Josh M. a big fan. They talk about whether it's anything new and just how good Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, and Stephen Graham are. Thoughts are naturally shared about Scorsese's storied career.
The second topic is Marriage Story (2019), the latest film from Noah Baumbach. The hosts both shake out mixed on the movie, generally more impressed with the corner of it involving the lawyer (Alan Alda, Laura Dern, Ray Liotta) than the married couple themselves (Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson). They struggle with the good and bad of the movie, authenticity, acting, and a predictable formula.
There's even some time devoted to the predictable boringness of Men in Black: International (2019). And check out Synonyms (2019) at the ByTowne!
