I'm Talking Here!
Monday November 25th, 2019 with Josh Murray and Joshua Robert Bateman
Can Parasite win Best Picture?
Your hosts the Joshes still haven't seen Netflix's two big awards movies: The Irishman (2019) by Martin Scorsese and Marriage Story (2019) by Noah Baumbach. This could be in part because they'll come to Netflix later, and are currently in a qualifying theatrical run for awards.
This leads into today's discussion on the state of a strange and close Oscar race, and the relative chances of The Irishman, Marriage Story, Jojo Rabbit (2019), Joker (2019), and more. Digressions include Jay Roach's Bombshell (2019) sounding misguided and Sam Mendes' 1917 (2019 [1917]) sounding misguided. But the nagging question is the ample chatter about your hosts' beloved film of the year, Bong Joon-ho's Parasite (2019). When no Korean movie has managed any Oscar nomination in the past, can the movie or Bong go all the way to taking home some hardware? And if not, then who?
The hosts still make time to shout some top picks on the big screen: Amour (2012) and Frankie (2019) are at the ByTowne, and Akira (1988) is at the Mayfair!
And starting Wednesday, next week's subject hits theatres: Rian Johnson's whodunit Knives Out (2019). Tune in next Monday for thoughts on it and other great murder mysteries like Sleuth (1972).
