Silly Tricks: Jojo Rabbit Contains Four Kids
The Joshes have glowing praise this week for Bridgehead Commercial (201?), an ad at the station that is smooth and satisfying.
After some digressions about the week's upcoming The Irishman (2019), Charlie's Angels (2019), and Ford V Ferrari (2019), the bulk of the broadcast becomes a deep dive into the hosts' issues with one buzzy release. It's the Oscar contender and the latest winner of TIFF's top prize, Taika Waititi's film Jojo Rabbit (2019), and both Joshes are mixed on it. Subtopics include Cool Nazi Moms not landing, why comparisons to Life Is Beautiful aren't entirely merited, controversy about whether there is a controversy, Elsa, and directing from within the scene like Albert Brooks.
Remembrance Day also prompts some reflection on great war films, so the Joshes shout out a few. Josh B. lists Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan (1998), Mel Gibson's Hacksaw Ridge (2016), and David Lean's Lawrence of Arabia (1962); Josh M. mentions Gillo Pontecorvo's The Battle of Algiers (1966), Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove (1964), and Hal Ashby's Coming Home (1978).
