Ahh... February 14th is on the horizon. For those of us who may have a special someone to celebrate Valentines Day with, candlelit dinners, chocolates and roses may come to mind.
But there's another incredibly important V-Day that you might not know about, also occurring on the same day. This other V-Day is a global activist campaign to put an end to violence against women. It began in the late '90s, with the inception of Eve Ensler's celebrated (and sometimes criticized) play The Vagina Monologues.
In this episode, we want to talk about it. We'll go down the Rabbit hole with our guest Zophia Brobio of Voices Against Violence, Carleton. She's staging the play this month.
We're speaking to her about her adaption of the play for a modern audience, honouring the tradition of V-Day, the statistics on violence against women in Canadian and global contexts and how we can be part of the solution in making old texts more intersectional.
**WARNING: This episode deals with issues including sexual violence/assault and violence against women.
