Kaleidoscope, Kind Space @ 222 Somerset st W. Queer Trans Youth, Cafe Q, 20 Something Meetup, Gender Quest are some of the amazing drop in’s that Kind Space holds. Now a new young adult group for ages 19-30 for Black, Indigenous and People of Colour is returning to Kind. The intention of this group is to bring young adults who are people of colour together to be able to break individual silos and meet new people. It should be noted given that this space is for young adults, this space will hold nuance for trauma, healing, harm reduction and difficult conversations that arise, but will be guided by accessibility needs and trigger prevention frameworks. Our objective is to foster a safer* space for Black women to share their stories with one another in order to build a common understanding across our different realities as friends, mothers, daughters, sisters, professionals, students, lovers, and survivors. Asinabka Music Showcase, @Asinabka Film & Media Festival 2 Daly St. Kelly Fraser is originally from Sanikiluaq, Nunavut, and has performed countless concerts across Canada, especially the Arctic (Nunavut and Nunavik), where she is extremely well known. Like many other Inuit, Kelly has been through many personal struggles, ranging from substance abuse, the loss of her father and others to suicide, to name only a few. Kelly uses her pain as inspiration to make art that can positively impact other native youths. She seeks to spread her messages of joy, healing, and cultural pride through a blend of traditional Inuit music and modern production. Kelly sings and raps in both English and Inuktitut, seamlessly blending the two languages with her powerful, insightful, and politically-relevant lyrics. Silla and Rise blend Inuit throat-singing and futuristic dance floor beats. Silla are Cynthia Pitsiulak (Kimmirut, NU) and Charlotte Qamaniq (Iglulik, NU) their name comes from the Inuktitut word "Sila" meaning weather. In respecting and honoring the need to preserve Inuit culture and paying homage to our land and the strong connection to its spirituality, they experience and perform the sounds of traditional and contemporary throat songs. Rise is Ottawa’s Rise Ashen, a Juno Award nominated global-grooves producer, DJ and dancer, who has spent his life pursuing the intersection of traditional and futuristic music. $25, tickets available at the door. We'll have the parking lot licenced, great food and music. Our annual collaborative beer release was ideated by our friends, West and Danielle, local Queer owners of Clover Food and Drink. The beer is named in honour of the We Demand protest; the first public demonstration for 2SLGBTQ+ rights in Canada. This report is a call to action for all non-Indigenous people to understand the depth, severity, and impact the violence, trauma, and genocide that has happened and continues to happen to Indigenous communities across the country. Kind Space has committed to hosting ongoing, intentional space for people in our communities to read, process, discuss, plan, and act on the Calls for Justice together.
